Chappell Roan has revealed she ‘misses’ being able to take drugs in public since becoming famous.

The singer, 26, released her debut EP School Nights in 2017 but it was her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess that saw her career take off.

Released last year, the album was labelled a ‘sleeper hit’, with its commercial breakthrough largely influenced by her supporting Olivia Rodrigo on her Guts World Tour and performances at Coachella.

Although her star is rising, the singer said there’s been one particular downfall of fame in the past few months.

Chappell, born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, has admitted she’s now too ‘self-conscious’ to exhibit outrageous behaviour when out and about.

‘[Doing] drugs in public. That’s what I miss. Just like, rolling up, being a f***ing freak at the bar or making out with someone at the bar,’ she said.

‘I miss frolicking, obviously, because now I’m self-conscious to frolic,’ she added during an interview on The Comment Section with Drew Afualo.

The singer also revealed that she now goes out ‘in disguise’ the majority of the time but ‘misses’ the days before she gave up her anonymity because some people have started to be ‘weird’ around her and her family now that she is famous.

‘I’m in disguise most of the time. But like, I miss just walking around being by myself. I guess being by myself is [what] I miss. People have started to be freaks,’ she explained.

‘They follow me and know where my parents live and my sister, where my sister works, all this weird s***.’

Despite facing the pitfalls of fans, Chappell recently said although her life had been ‘cuckoo’ in recent months, she found it ‘sick’ to have such significant support from fans.

Speaking in a video posted to TikTok, she said: ‘I’m reflecting on my life and the past couple of weeks have been cuckoo. But what’s so reassuring and so f***ing sick is — the pop girls that you and I have loved our whole lives or have been f***ing stans [of] the past two or three years — a lot of them have reached out and are so supportive and girl’s girls.’

‘To have people I look up to reach out and offer like a friend or help, I don’t know, it’s just sick and it makes me believe in the world,’ she added.

Last month she also briefly paused a show in North Carolina, confessing to the crowd she was having difficulties keeping up with her fame.

‘I just want to be honest with the crowd. I just feel a little off today because I think that my career is just kind of going really fast, and it’s really hard to keep up. I’m just being honest that I’m just having a hard time today,’ she said.

‘I’m not trying to give you a lesser show, it’s just, there’s a lot. Thank you for understanding. This is all I’ve ever wanted. It’s just heavy sometimes.’
